Designers Showing at London Fashion Week

Included in this year’s event are newcomers Acne ( a Swedish fashion house) and NEWGEN (new generation) designers Michael Van Der Ham, David Koma and Holly Fulton, all making their debuts. Acne has recently opened its first flagship store in the UK (London’s Mayfair) and is know for its award winning denim and leather designs. London Fashion Week’s website quotes Jonny Johansson, Creative Director of Acne, as saying “for me London has a great energy and momentum at the moment. I love the English way of clashing heritage and contemporary.”

After 2 successful seasons in Paris, Giles Deacon ( a quintessential London label) makes a welcome return to London Fashion Week this September. Burberry Prorsum returns for a 3rd season along with Matthew Williamson and Pringle of Scotland.

The Venue

The London Fashion Week Venue is Somerset House in The Strand. The building is famous for being the old public records office where the births marriages and deaths of the nation were recorded. This is a relatively new venue (since 2009) and is both central and historical. The move was made to mark London Fashion Week’s 25th birthday, commemorating 25 years of London Fashion Week.

London Fashion Week Schedule

Kicking off London Fashion week on Friday September 17th 2010 is Paul Costelloe. The final runway shows on the last day of womenswear (September 21st 2010) include the heritage brands Jaeger London and Burberry Prorsum. The coveted closing slot goes to Clements Ribeiro. On the following day, September 22nd it’s the turn of the menswear designers. This includes a runway debut from Ghana-born British designer Ozwald Boateng, the cutting-edge tailor to celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Will Smith, Samuel L Jackson, Russell Crow and Keanu Reeves.

Vodaphone London Fashion Weekend

London Fashion Weekend is held the weekend immediately after London Fashion Week and is open to the public. This year the event takes place from Thursday September 23rd to Sunday September 26 2010. Here fashionistas have a chance not only to buy discounted clothing from over 100 designers such as DKNY and Sass & Bide, but to preview some of the oncoming trends for Autumn Winter 2010 within the British Fashion Council’s runway venue. It is also possible to get beauty and haircare advice.

Tickets are limited and are available to buy online, although they are being snapped up quickly. Prices range from £15.50 (first day entrance only) to £34.50 for the last day (entrance + runway show and show bag) or platinum package (which includes the club lounge) at £120.00 for Saturday.

A revised (downloadable) schedule is available on the London Fashion Week website which includes details of all the shows and presentations.

These are just 2 fashion events taking place in the UK's capital throughout September 2010.

Other events include High Street Fashion Week and one of the best vintage fashion fairs in the world.
