Green is the color nature, a subconscious link to earth and the environment. It has evolved as a new wardrobe basic and embodies everything that is good about the world.

Everybody is going green, in some form or another. Wear green and you give the message that you are sensitive about doing the right thing. However, green is also the color of envy, says fashion forecaster Chris Stone in In Style’s article, “What’s Your Perfect Color?” (June 2008), so beware, “Greenies can be wicked gossips." But for anyone who likes to wear green, there is a whole range of rich shades and pastel hues for you to experiment with.

Mossy, alpine and olive greens are a fall fashion feature, right there with charcoal gray, teal blue and regal purple. Find them in coats and elegant evening gowns and in plaids and checks, one of the most popular looks for fall and winter.

Green is a universal color, the color of the land and trees. It has become a favorite of fashion designers, in its many hues, from powerful emerald to pastel mint green. Olive green is a fashion favorite as it is considered a sophisticated color.

The Right Green for Your Complexion

Choosing the wrong shade of green can do absolutely nothing for your appearance, so select carefully. There are green-blue blends (sea green, forest green, racing green) or green-brown blends such as olive, khaki and jungle green.

  • Green is one of the colors that works well on red-heads (very few colors do). Wear a strong green like emerald, olive or forest green to make red hair stand-out.
  • Juicy lime greens are just right for blondes, particularly if they have some warmth in their skin, like Charlize Thereon. Lime green is mixed with yellow, so is a good matching tone for blonde hair.
  • Mint green looks dramatic on dark complexion as this strong pastel provides a vivid contrast to the skin tone. Darker shades are too dull or muddy, but strong lighter shades look striking and light up the face.

How to Wear Green

For an on-trend look match greens with purples and grays, for fall 2008. If you wear olive, it can have a very “country” look, so make sure it has been modernized with accessories which are up-beat or eccentric.

Greens for Fall Winter 2008

Some of the coolest greens can be seen in Oscar De La Renta’s fall collection, matched with purple prints, grays; and put together in rich fabrics. From coats to skirts, to dresses to tops, watch for some unusual color combinations this season. Shady Glade is one of Pantone’s Fall 2008 colors, with a mossy green base, breaking away from the more traditional greens.
